Armenia

Armenia was under Soviet rule from 1921-1991. During these 70 years, Armenian journalists did not have much freedom in what they could write about, especially in their writing style.

Leah Kohlenberg, a journalist with Reporters Without Borders, went around the former Soviet Union in an attempt to help journalists learn how to write for the world. She tried to help them understand how their previous writing style had been strictly Soviet, and then allowed them to learn how to write in a way that the world could understand.

Reporters Without Borders is an organization focused on bringing press freedom to countries where that does not exist. They want to help the public be informed about the world, and they want to help journalists around the world make that possible.

Kohlenberg's trip to Armenia is just one example of how Reporters Without Borders works with journalists. They have also done similar programs around the former Soviet Union.
