Comment
This is the first time in 11 years that there is no Russian-3 class. Two years ago, my enrollment was so high, another teacher would have had to be hired by 2 of the 7 sections of Russian. The district responded by cutting 65 freshman from the program. Many were recruited into French and Spanish. As a result there were not enough students to offer Russian-3 this year. I have 68 Russian-2 students in two sections and 75 Russian-1 students in 3 sections. I think I will again have a large enrollment for 2009/2010 and the freshman may be cut again.
I was hired as a Math teacher in 1980. In 1984 I offered the first class in Russian. The program grew over the years, so that this is the 10th year that I have not taught Mathematics, but have 5 sections of Russian.
I plan to teach one more year. I have fought to have the Russian program continue after my retirement, but am not sure what the district will do.
