The 11390 K-8 Students are distributed in two levels, as indicated above.
K-5: 63, 6-8: 27
The numbers are awfully low this year -- one of the obvious reasons why they are so low is that
AWL moved to a very old building in a a very rough neibourhood due to
the reconstruction. We are not going to move back to our area for the
next year and a half.
The other reason why the enrollment dropped is that there had to be a
dramatic change in the way languages are offered in AWL due to the cut
in budget. Now there's only one teacher per foreign language department
and students are offered much less FL classes a week.
But I am trying my best to keep the numbers and raise the Russian
language enrollment :-)

Comment
This is a program that pulls students from their home school to our location once a week. They receive enrichment opportunities and one of these is Russian! I see each student once a week for 20 minutes. Unfortunately, we do not have Russian at the junior high/middle schools, so there is a gap between Horizons and Russian at the high school. However, I am hopeful that we will have Russian at our middle school next year!! |
