Be certain you participate in The National Russian Essay Contest each November and in The Olympiada of Spoken Russian in your region each spring. Try to arrange a trip to Russia every other year or every year, depending upon community interest.

I recommend 5 Elementov because Russian pedagogy for teaching Russian to non-native speakers is embedded in each of the exercises, which build upon one another. I am curious as to how this will impact students' skills as they head toward advanced study.

All Western students must take and pass four academic years of the same foreign language to get a Western diploma; students who pass at least two years of language study receive the standard Maryland high school diploma. Students are allowed to make a language choice/preference when applying to Western, but are not guaranteed their choice of language. This means that the great majority of students are assigned a foreign language.
