I have all four levels in one class, which is why I resorted to the independent study.

I really like Janna Lelchuk's I Want to Speak Russian, except that it doesn't have the stress marked.

This program is for middle school students. They take the first year of Russian (Level 1) over the course of two years. They are then placed in the second or sometimes third year of Russian at the local high school.

I am the Russian teacher in the connected (West) high school. Students come to my West High classroom each day after our school is over to take Russian. Although the junior high class is moving more slowly, I have hope that the group will be able to enter my Russian 2 class in the fall.

Anchorage Students Learning in Russian

By RACHEL D'ORO

ASSOCIATED PRESS

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The littlest students at one Anchorage school are

learning their lessons in Russian, the complex tongue of Alaska's

former owner and a language increasingly important for improved international

relations.

Kindergartners and first-graders at Turnagain Elementary School attend

Two three-hour sessions a day - one in Russian, one in English - in a

Program described by foreign language experts as a first for a public school in

The    United States. (Beginning paragraphs of longer article.)

Michelle Mitchell has moved out of state (2005)

I would be interested in finding other teachers/classes who would like penpals.

Mix of native speakers, heritage learners and beginners. Classes also include 75-85% Native and Heritage Speakers.

Michelle Mitchell previously noted: "I have a Russian bilingual program with
native speakers from Russia and Ukraine. 30 are receiving services while we have over 60 Russian students in our school. In the mornings, I interpret for and support them
with their tests and homework explaining and instructing in Russian. In the afternoons, I teach them English.I am constantly getting students new to the U.S. "

One of my level 4 students is actually an AP student. Two of the "level 5" students are also AP. One of them is an IB student.

I am using Face to Face and TPRS with the lower levels.
