Reproductive Health is an issue that affects people all over the world, however, Bolivia has the highest prenatal death rate in Latin America. In addition, three out of four women suffered some kind of complication during pregnancy and only 40% asked for help. In 1997, the infant mortality rate in Bolivia was 66 for every 1,000 born, and the maternal mortality rate was 390 for every 100,000. In 1998, the John Hopkins University Center for Communications Programs along with SERVIR, Project Concern International (PCI) and el Centro de Promoción Agropecuaria Campesina (CEPAC) conducted a participatory communications campaign to increase the awareness and use of safe-sex practices and reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate.
