     Supervised a staff of six full-time and ten part-time reporters      covering an area that included two major universities.
     Wrote a weekly column.
     Special assignments to the state capital in Richmond and Capitol      Hill in Washington, D.C.


1973 to 1977 - Reporter, Roanoke Times & World-News
     Covered local and state politics, city and county government,      regional planning, public education, and higher education.
     Wrote health and medical news, personality profiles, consumer      news, historical features, and drama reviews.

1972 to 1973 - Director of Information and Public Relations for Andrew McFarland Center (in-patient mental health and mental retardation center in Springfield, Illinois)
     Responsible for creating and writing informational brochures, a      weekly newsletter, news releases, films, and slide presentations.

     Staff writer for The Engineer magazine at Fort Belvoir, Virginia
     Editor of a command newspaper in Worms, Germany
     Freelance credits included the European Stars and Stripes and      two German newspapers
