Russia

Background

Russia has a long and proud history. In 1991, the USSR disolved and modern Russia emerged to take its place. Russia remains a great power, with a seat on the UN Security Council and many international responsibilities. Russia is a democracy, with Vladimir Putin as president. The economy is a nice market economy, making use of Russia's many natural resources, the most plentiful of which is oil.

Levers of Power

The Russian military was once great and is a shadow of its former self. However, we do have a lot of sophisticated military equipment to sell and can offer training. We are willing to sell military equipment for hard cash to any interested buyer. And its good stuff too--the SU-27 is one of the top fighter planes in the world! We have a large number of troops, close to a million, and are able to deploy them as needed. Strong presence in Asia with the Pacific fleet. Plus, there are the nukes. While only 3200 warheads are deployed, we have some 16,000 floating around somewhere (we think...). While the Russian economy is not that big, there is a lot of oil in Siberia that could be exported--for hard cash, of course.
