I started the Russian program here in MISD with one 30-student class of Russian 1 in the spring of 2004. Since I am the only Russian teacher and there are actually four high schools in our district, I moved to a central quasi-magnet career tech campus that serves all campuses, so I teach kids now from each one. This is also the first time for me to have AP students (2, albeit heritage speakers)..

It seems there are so many levels within a level, which complicate the teaching, since IB/AP are usually in the same class!
The Russnet modules are terrific and so useful---

The Olympiada packets are a wonderful source of information to augment daily work and preparation for the Spoken Olympiada. This could be a wonderful and inspirational activity for Rissian classes if the state contest is properly run! Mark Trotter (IndianaUniversity) does a fabulous job of helping schools organize professionally run contests, where possible!
The Essay Contest is truly challenging and so well run by Ppavo Husen
nationally and at Pushkin Institute! The contest inspires our students to work harder, study more Russian and truly helps direct students to careers in Russian! "YPA" for Mark and Paavo, who did heroic jobs for all of us in organizing all these Olympiadas-- both Spoken and Written!!! |
